The Germans' opening up toward Russia under a Social Democratic
government was simply an attempt to get over the cold war -- and in no
way suggested approval of Stalinist government.

All I meant was that it's internally an administered economy. A
little centralised for my taste, but in principle no different from a
small-to-medium sized country. Just guessing I'd imagine that Sears
is rather more difficult to administer economically than say Sudan or
maybe even Singapore.
