Some time ago I also questioned the assertion that keyhole beds and mandala
gardens increase the planting area. Playing with some basic math, I
couldn't show that it works. In the end I came to the conclusion that
straight rows were actually better! It seems to come down to aesthetics
more than space. So, until someone can show that plants are happier in
curves, it is hard to make the case that keyholes are provided more
planting space / productivity.
