GBlist: global warming and LCA

Listers might be interested in a column from the May 25 Washington Post on
global warming, and how the views of industry-supported scientists have
been used to influence this debate. It can be found at
http://www.washingtonpost.com. Once there, click on Editorial and Outlook
for May 25.

Also, several people have expressed interest in LCA. This comes up
periodically. Since good data are not yet available for building products
in the U.S. and since some parts of LCA methodology are still under
development (important parts, as Hal noted!), the major benefit of LCA now
is as a way of thinking--getting us to expand what we look at and think
about when we consider environmental preferability. It helps us to look
beyond unidimensional analyses ("if it's recycled, it's always better"
etc.) to a more holistic approach. In-depth discussions of LCA are
probably better done off-line or at another site as Nadav suggested.
