Jorg, the canals in England use "puddled" clay. Two hundred years and so
long as it stays wet it's water tight. Puddling means it is kneaded I
think. Closer to home and to our time, 'Bentonite' is a very fine clay that
is used for waterproofing. Clay sounds like the environmental champ to me.
