GBlist: Fluorescent Lights: off or on?

John:

When adjusting the time delay period for office lighting occupancy
sensors, common practice in the industry today is to use a 5 to 7 minute
delay before turning the fixtures off.

This is what most manufacturer field sales reps will advise. I have
specified these values with good results and no ""apparant"" premature
equipment failures. I'm speaking of the electranic ballasts, T-8
florescent fixtures.... typical modern high efficiency lamps.

Once I questioned a manufacturer about the basis of the delay
recomendations. They cited testing and studies, which I can no longer
recall, from industry trade accociations whose names were well known.
