the orange room

wall of sound welcome to the archive page

06.17.01

howdy! i finally cleaned up this page a little and moved all the older stuff onto the archives link. it is a beautiful day outside (father's day, too!) and what better way to spend it than inside updating a web page.

if you are still looking for my resume, it can be found here. if you are still a stickler for plain text files, than you can find a .txt copy here.

as a result of my (many) months long job search, i have been fortunate enough to find a truly excellent position with unc @ chapel hill. as of early july, i will be managing the west coast (that means 'chapel hill' in this case) end of the nclive.org web service. this is majorly exciting news for me; for several reasons. one being that i can now walk to work and thus avoid the fun and exciting i-40 commute everyday. another one being that this job promises to be really cool, challenging, and full of opportunity. who knows, i might even wind up back in school...

so, that is the news for now. eventually, i will have a net connection at home and be able to put more new info up on the orange room all of the time. and then you just won't know what to do with yourself. best just to remain calm. kick yer feet up. relax.

sorry to let so much time pass between updates, but i have been quite immersed in my job hunt. naturally, updating the webpage would have to play second fiddle. if you're looking for my resume, you can view it in either .html format or .txt format. please let me know if you need it as a word .doc.

i have had the pleasure of seeing several of my favorite bands live at the cat's cradle recently. last friday (04.20.01) i got to see azure ray open for crooked fingers. it was such a delightful evening. eric bachman even brought the crooked fingers crew down on the cradle floor for the first three songs. i had never seen a band do that before.

then the following night (saturday 04.21.01) i got to enjoy the complete opposite of the musical spectrum. folk implosion opened for the melvins. this was one of the loudest nights i've spent at the cradle all year. all hail the melvins! this show rocked. more details to follow as soon as i get some time to update the wall of sound page (which is due for a major overhaul, btw).

thanks for reading. best wishes to you all!

i am happy to see that there are some good opportunities around the triangle. with so many folks recently displaced of work, this can at least give us hope.

tonight internetworkers was held at the flying saucer in raleigh. it was really fun and i got to meet some new techies! altho the service was a bit slow, the food was great and their beer selection must be the most diverse in the area.

well, i am now available for hire. utenzi.com went bankrupt and laid off the remainder of its employees. it is truly a shame considering how promising it had been and how many top notch people worked there.

remind me to never talk to the press...

this *was* a link to an article from the n&o, but it has since become a dead link thanks to their nifty, expensive archive system. thankfully someone is doing their part to keep information locked up and costly.

i have been inspired!! i have had a lot to think about lately and all this heady rumination has led me to some substantial revelations. the primary realization is that i should be using the internet for a lot more than i currently do. this came about, in part, due to the amazing on-line work by such digital pioneers as eric s. raymond , david touretzky , and john gilmore. these individuals are truly amazing. the work they do to support both freedom of speech and technological advancement cause me to reconsider my goals and aspirations in life. anyone who can make me think on that level is to be revered.

please check out their sites and look for other info related to them. you'll be impressed, i promise. so, while i haven't figured out my immediate goal and purpose, i know that things will be changing soon. on-line freedom is as important as off-line freedom. let us rejoice in our constitutional rights!!
