The Race for President of the United States We already know that George W. is pro - gun. He said himself that he "gave the gun folks every thing they ask for" in Texas. And the NRA says, they expect to have an office in the White House when GWB is elected. As Governor of Texas, Bush signed an NRA backed bill to allow private citizens to carry concealed handguns. In 1997 he signed an amendment which allowed concealed weapons to be taken into previously banned areas such as churches, and amusement parks. Bush also opposes closing the gun show loophole. What about his new running mate, Dick Cheney? On December 17, 1985, the House voted to ban cop killer bullets, "The Law Officers Protection Act." It passed 400-21. Cheney was one of the 21 to oppose the legislation. On May 10, 1988, the House voted to ban plastic guns: "The Terrorist Firearms Detection Act." It passed 413-4. Cheney was one of the four votes against this measure. On September 15, 1988, the House voted on an amendment by Rep. McCollum to strip the national seven-day waiting period for handgun purchases from the Ominbus Drug Initiative Act of 1988 (HR 5210). Cheney voted for the amendment which was a vote against HCI's position. This was the first vote on the Brady Bill. On the other hand... We know that Al Gore is a supporter of safe gun legislation, The NRA has been calling him names for months. Gore's running mate, Joseph Lieberman has an excellent voting record on guns: Voted with Handgun
Control Inc. positions: 100%
