Title: COOPERATIVE PROGRAMS AND LIBRARY AUTOMATION
Abstract: PREFACE
A doctoral dissertation may be characterized as the product of the influences, interactions, assistance, guidance, and counseling of the many persons who contribute to the education and development of an individual. Thus, one could say no dissertation is completed without the assistance, guidance, cooperation and encouragement of many persons, especially in the dissertation committee.
In acknowledging just a few of the many persons who have contributed to my education and development, I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to my committee chairman, Professor Allen Kent, whose direction, counseling and patience proved invaluable in the completion of this research effort. It is my pleasure also, to extend sincere appreciation to Professors Martha Manheimer, Frank B. Sessa, John Immroth, and K. Leon Montgomery.
An acknowledgement also is accorded to Directors Frederick G. Kilgour and Glyn T. Evans who permitted me to utilize their organizations as primary data collection sources and who provided the kind of cooperation an investigator could reasonably expect.
Last, but not least, a word of acknowledgement is in order to the entire faculty and staff of the Graduate School of Library and Information Sciences, my mother and father, and my wife Brenda, whose love, patience, and understanding have proven to be an invaluable asset
