SCHOOL: ADVISORS: COMMITTEE MEMBERS: MPACT Status: Fully Complete Title: A study of the introduction of the Internet to selected public libraries in Florida Abstract: The study describes the introduction of the Internet to public libraries in Florida through a demonstration project conducted by the State Library of Florida with the Tampa Bay Library Consortium. The primary focus of the study was the training received by the participants and how this training could be improved upon. The study dealt with the following: initial training sessions; training difficulties for staff; training practice for staff; impact of the Internet; and support needed. Data was collected using surveys, logsheets, and onsite interviews. Conclusions reached included: the "train the trainers" concept; learning curve; planning for staff training; patron training; the impact of the Internet on services and staff attitudes; and the concept of support. |
