Hi,
I visited the Orangeburg Sod Farms today between 11:30am and 1:30pm, Sunday,
August 8. Since the middle road from the main entrance seemed occupied by a
large encampment of Rocket Scientists, I birded only from other roads,
avoiding gated/posted areas. Large numbers of Killdeer, up to thirty
Pectoral Sandpipers, about 10 Least Sandpipers, and 3 Upland Sandpipers
(panting in the 100+ temps)associating with a small group of Cattle Egrets.
The hot, humid conditions were also creating frequent "dust devils" and
blowing debris like little tornados.
Four other Uplands were at another bit of roadside turf off highway 301
toward Santee, along with a few more Pectorals. No Buff-breasteds yet.
Also, Yellow Warblers are currently coming through Columbia.
