A day trip to the coast to bird with Sharon Brown proved interesting and
fun yesterday. Among the highlights found from a variety of stops in and
around Edisto Beach were a late Yellow-billed Cuckoo, a very late Yellow
Warbler, and a lengthy excellent look at a Nelson's Sharp-tailed
Sparrow. Also noted were a large group (another of those large
"tornadoes") of mostly Tree Swallows with a Bank Swallow or two added to
the mix for some variation. Although we didn't get real good looks, a
couple of American Oystercatchers were noted across the mouth of the tidal
creek. A fun day afield - no big numbers but enough diversity to be fun
and several late migrants to add a little wonder.
