The following are highlights of the 3 hour Sunday morning birdwalk at
Magnolia Plantation at 3550 Ashley River Road ( highway 61 ) northwest of
Charleston, SC led by Perry Nugent at 8:30 am.
April 20, 2003
65 species were seen and/or heard on a nice day. The most interesting were;
6 Pied-billed Grebes, 50 Anhingas, 1 Least Bittern, 40 Great Egrets, 20
Snowy Egrets, 4 Cattle Egrets, 11 Little Blue Herons, 4 Tri-colored Herons,
7 Green Herons, 7 Black-crowned Night Herons, 2 Yellow-crowned Night Herons,
6 White Ibis ( 1 had red feathers toward the rump ), 1 Glossy Ibis, 6 Wood
Storks, 20 Wood Ducks some with babies, 1 Hooded Merganser, 1 Osprey, 2
adult Bald Eagles, 55 Red-shouldered Hawks, 2 Black-necked Stilts, 40 Least
Terns, 2 Pileated Woodpeckers, 1 Wood-pewee, 8 Purple Martins, 3 Blue-gray
Gnatcatchers, 1 Gray Catbird, 15 Cedar Waxwings, 3 Northern Parula warblers,
10 yellow-rumped Warblers, 2 Yellow-throated Warblers, 6 Prothonotary
Warblers, and 2 Orchard Orioles.
