I already replied to Matt privately to answer his question; I suspect
that everyone who reads this list thoroughly already knows at least a
partial answer...

Four hours from Chapel Hill can actually get you almost anywhere in the
state, including the Blue Ridge Parkway. This is probably the best
warbler-watching area in the state. I've never been to Jackson Park in
Asheville, it might be a little more than 4 hours. The coast is also
great and within 4 hours normally, but the flooding has cut off many
roads and greatly lengthened driving time. Many buildings either were
flooded or wind-damaged, so finding a place to stay could also be
difficult.

There are some good spots in Chapel Hill, particularly Mason Farm and Old
Hope Valley Farm (both located on roads by the same name). The Butner
Gamelands north of Durham, around Brickhouse Road, can also be excellent,
and nearly any peninsula into Jordan or Falls Lake (Ebenezer Point SRA,
Rolling View SRA) can have good numbers and diversity of migrating
landbirds if you get there on the right morning.

There's a campground in Seafort SRA, just off US 64 on the Jordan Lake
shoreline. It's pretty close to the aforementioned Ebenezer Point. If you
opt for the Blue Ridge Parkway, I think Julian Price Park is where I've
camped up there before, and there are other options (Mount Mitchell
maybe?).

Good birding,

Josh
