Hi,
Thought you would like to know that someone here in New Bern reported a
red-breasted nuthatch today to our "bird" store. It was seen in the
"Fairfield Harbor" area by a member of our local bird club yesterday at the
suet in her yard. Apparently, after talking to her on the phone tonight,
she also saw it (or another one) on Oct. 31, but did not call it in to the
store. She said she had one last winter. Up until now, I was so jealous
of all of these sightings across the state. Now, by golly, we have one too.
For those of you who are new to "birding", October is usually the slowest
month in the year for birds. So many of our locals have left and the winter
ones have not arrived. Make sure you have a good variety of seed, suet ,
fruit, baked goods, nuts and fresh water, and then sit back and see how
many different kinds of birds you can attract.
