We live in N. Durham County, and our "yard" includes the 1 mi loop that
Janet and I frequently walk from our house out the gravel rd (White Horse
Run) to S. Lowell Rd, w. about 200 yards on S. Lowell, and down the the
gravel drive back to our house and accross a field to the Little River. I
don't know if this violates and "rules" about yard lists, but it is our
list. It includes woods, fields, grassy waste places (a.k.a. sparrow
fields) and the Little River and its tributary called Terry Branch.
We hit 111 species in 1999 with the last 2, a N. Harrier and Savannah
sparrow, arriving last week. I think that the highlights were the Bald
Eagle, immature osprey, and the lemon yellow scarlet tanager. We also have
a nesting Barred owl.
Nice to live in the country.
