As 2000 inches to a close I am frantically scrambling to glimpse
those birds which have eluded me all year. I'm competing with a
Californian friend for the year list, and she is leaving me behind in
the dust.
The Red Breasted Nuthatch is one embarrassing miss for me this
year--I never made it up to the mountains. Can anyone suggest any
triangle spots where I might try for one? Cynthia Fox has been kind
enough to let me hang out at her feeders and although there I have
seen all kinds of wonderful things (a gorgeously plumaged sapsucker
hanging onto a cluster of berries and feeding on them very gingerly so
as not to fall off) the nuthatch continues to elude me.
Help (for the sake of North Carolina vs. California)
