Hello, this is a Dec. 29 update of the Carolina Rare Bird Alert featuring
birding news from North and South Carolina sponsored by the Carolina Bird
Club. Highlights on this report include:
BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRDS
EURASIAN WIGEON
CINNAMON TEAL
At least 2 BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRDS can be seen in NC right now. An imm.
male with visible purple feathers on the throat is dependable at a feeder in
Sunset Beach, NC. For directions to this bird contact Mary McDavit at
910-579- 2446. A female BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD is also dependable at a
feeder in Charlotte, NC. Call Linda Munoz at 704-543-1845 for details.
A male EURASIAN WIGEON is being seen at Greenfield Lake in Wilmington, NC.
Look for a small group of Am. wigeon on the lake. The EURASIAN WIGEON should
be with those birds.
The CINNAMON TEAL at Sunset Beach, NC has not been seen since Dec. 24 but
birders looking at the Black-chinned hummingbird there should take time to
look for this duck on the lake. (Lake Medcalf).
Thanks this week to Sam Cooper, Linda Munoz, and Mary McDavit for their calls
and reports.
