After not seeing the imm. Baltimore Oriole for about a week now, he was
present again at the feeders and birdbath today at noon. Was on my way
outside and realized he was on the ground birdbath drinking. Then flew up to
the small feeder shelf and ate some sunflower chips, let me get within about
8 ft. of him. I am now making a new batch of Peanut Butter/cornmeal mix that
many of the birds love, kind of dry and crumbly consistency, have seen many
diff. bird eating it, including Woodpeckers, H. Thrushes, Pine Warblers, C.
Wrens.... and also put more mealworms out for him. Have left out some orange
slices, but went untouched.
Question: In "Birds of Forest, Yard, and Thicket" John Eastman lists
crecopia fruits as one of the B. Oriole's winter range foods, as well as
caterpillars, beetles, etc. What are crecopia fruits?
