Greater Scaup at RDU

This morning Alan Johnston, Jack McLean, Doug Shadwick, and I checked out
some of the Raleigh lakes. The highlight was a flock of 24 Greater Scaup
at Briar Creek Reservoir on Aviation Parkway (just across from RDU
airport). They've been there for some time, according to Doug, and have
been seen there fairly regularly in recent years. Also there: Bufflehead
and Ruddy Ducks.

Lake Crabtree was not too exciting (1 Lesser Scaup), but the Lake Wheeler
Road dairy pond had a nice flock of 41 Northern Shovelers, in two rotating
flotillas, as well as some Lesser Scaup, Bufflehead, and a Ring-necked.
Also in the area: a Cooper's Hawk and a flock of 50 or so American Pipits.
Lake Johnson had Mallards and Coots, as well as Greylag Geese looking for
a handout.
