Sunday, Feb 13, Neil Moore and I observed an adult gull at Cape Point which
very nicely fit the description of Yellow-legged Gull. The bird appeared the
size of a Herring Gull, mantle only ever-so slightly darker. It had bright
yellow legs. The bill was yellow with a red spot only and appeared the same
size, etc as that of a Herring Gull. The eye color was yellow with a red
orbital ring. The amount of black in the wing tips was not noted. There was
a little streaking on the head and neck, but not as much as on many of the
adult Herring Gulls and certainly not like that of a typical adult Lesser.
The bird was standing in a group of Herring, Greater Black-backs and Lesser
Black-backed Gulls.
