Hello, this is a Feb. 13 update of the Carolina Rare Bird Alert featuring 
birding news from North and South Carolina sponsored by the Carolina Bird 
Club. Highlights on this report are:

WESTERN TANAGER
WHITE- FACED IBIS
CINNAMON TEAL
LINCOLN'S SPARROWS
LITTLE GULL
COMMON MURRE
GLAUCOUS GULL
CALIFORNIA GULL
BLACK-HEADED GULL 

A female WESTERN TANAGER is being seen at a feeder in Washington, NC. For 
details call John Register at 242-946-1330.

A WHITE-FACED IBIS and a male CINNAMON TEAL can be seen at Savannah NWR in 
SC. Both birds are at impoundment #16 which is along the Wildlife Drive. With 
some patience, the red iris of the WHITE-FACED IBIS can be seen. Both of 
these birds were last reported Feb. 10. There are glossy ibis present in the 
same area.

A COMMON MURRE was seen for a couple of days (2-3,4) at Cape Hatteras Point 
in NC but has not been reported since then. Other notable birds at the point 
recently include BLACK-HEADED GULL, GLAUCOUS GULL, CALIFORNIA GULL and LITTLE 
GULL.

A LITTLE GULL was over the surf  at Wrightsville Beach, NC recently. LITTLE 
GULLS are most often found in large flocks of Bonaparte's gulls in the 
Carolinas.

LINCOLN'S SPARROWS have been seen regularly in the fields of Alligator River 
NWR in NC. From US 64 at the refuge turn onto Milltail Rd. Continue for a 
couple of miles to a left at Long Curve Rd. From this intersection stop 
frequently along Long Curve for a couple of miles. Wintering GRASSHOPPER 
SPARROWS have also been seen along this stretch. Birding is restricted to the 
road ; do not enter the fields.
