On the regularly scheduled waterfowl field trip of the Piedmont Bird Club
this morning (Saturday), we found three female Common Mergansers in Guilford
Co., NC, north of Greensboro on Lake Townsend. Common Mergs are far from
common in our part of the world. We also had the other two species of
mergansers for comparison.
The Guilford Co. pair of Bald Eagles have constructed a new nest about a mile
and a half from the original site after the old one fell. We saw an adult
sitting on the nest in brooding position this morning.
