A Great Horned Owl? Around daybreak yesterday on a telephone line about
three miles west of Manning, S. C. I was surprised to see a Red-shouldered
Hawk on a similar line nearby about a month ago, but it never occurred to me
that a Great Horned would attempt to engage such a small perch with those
big meat hooks! But he did, and right beside a fairly busy highway.
Lots of birds at Santee Coastal Reserve--53 species and a bobcat
in about five and a half hours.
