Hi C-birders,
This morning the GSBG (Grand Strand Birding Group-No rules but your own, No
dues, No officers, No voting, Opt in-Opt out) made a sojourn to Berkeley
County as Jack wanted to start a Berkeley County list. Other birders were
Ritch Lilly and Paul Rogers. We basically followed the itinerary outlined
in Robin Carter's book, "Finding Birds in South Carolina". We gotta go back
to Old Santee Canal S.P, It should be great during migration. 63 total
birds were seen. Most interesting were the Common Loon, Horned Grebe which
was in with Scaup, and Greater Yellowlegs at Cainhoy. Snow Goose (blue
phase) fly-bys at Santee Canal S.P. Red-cockaded Woodpeckers,
Hermit Thrush, and a Blue-headed Vireo along forest road 583. Wish we could
have seen that bird doing the "tick, tick" call, probably Winter Wren, the
habitat was right.
Good company, good birding.
