The following are highlights of the 3 hour Sunday Birdwalk at Magnolia
Plantation At 3550 Ashley River Road ( highway 61) northwest of Charleston,
SC led by Perry Nugent at 8:30 am.
July 27, 2003
47 species were seen and/or heard on a nice day, The most interesting were;
20 Pied-billed Grebes ( one adult was teaching 3 very young babies to feed.
Could they be a second brood ? ), 25 Anhingas, 20 Least Bitterns, 60 Wood
Ducks many babies, 5 Mississippi Kites, 1 immature Cooper's Hawk, 118 Common
Moorhens ( many maybe on their third brood ),2 Spotted Sandpipers, 4
Yellow-billed Cuckoos, 3 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, 2 Eastern Kingbirds, 30
purple Martins, and 40 Barn Swallows.
