ZDNET: Microsoft bans Java applets from its Web sites
If Microsoft is able to present their information in a creative,
user-friendly way without the use of Java applets, then it won't be a
problem banning them from their sites. On the other hand, if the decision
to ban them was based on the ability of their server to handle the
applets, then maybe they're focusing their attention in the wrong place.
Instead of banning the applets, they should work to develop the
technolgy that helps helps with the download time and/or lessens the
burden on their server. As a leading software developer, I think Microsoft
should be working with the new technology, not around it.
