Type of rapists and their percieved intent


These are based on rapist's profiles: power-assertive rapist, power-reassurance rapist, anger-retaliatory rapist, anger-excitation rapist. (Groth) Most rapes are not about lust or sex. They are about power, control and at times violence.

Perceived Intent to:

  • humiliate
  • degrade
  • disempower
  • punish (power, hate crime)
  • control (power)
  • gain sexual gratification
  • inflict bodily harm
  • terrorize
  • sexual exploitation
  • shame
  • show ownership of the victim
  • all of the above
