The first thing you should know if you were raped or sexually assaulted is that:

It was not your fault.

It may seem very hard to talk about your assault right now. There are people who will believe and help you. They have heard your story in a hundred different forms and are familiar with what you are going through. Please call a hotline and talk to a counselor. If you are not comfortable with that then please visit one of the online support groups. You will be anonymous and find that thousands of women share your feelings and experiences. You are not alone.

Database of Women's Services and Organizations in Post-Katrina New Orleans
Currently in the data collection stage, this project will soon offer information regarding the status of local organizations that provide services specifically to women. Though services for women were scarce prior to Katrina, they have obviously been impacted by the storm and in many cases have diminished. It is the goal of this project to understand the effects that the hurricane has had on women’s organizations, as well as to consolidate information about the services that are currently available.
