T
THIRUPPAVAI
SWAPADHESAM SREMATH PARAMAHAMSA VANAMAMALAI JEEYAR In the previous postings the swApadhEsa
vyAkyAnam viewed thiruppavai in two angles.
1. The first pAsuram is the synopsis of the whole
thirup-pAvai
2. The exprience of the srEvaishNavic devotees, the
nature of various devotees, the procedure to approach the LOrd, the means and
the goal and the summary were all discussed.
Now, let us see how the pAsuram-s are cross-related
to AzhwAr-s.
The ten pAsuram-s from 6-15 represents the
AzhwArs.
The Sixth-pAsuram: "piLLAi
ezhundhirAi"---> poizhgai AzhwAr.
In the 54th pAsuram of mudhal thiruvandhAdhi
poizhgai AzhwAr enjoys krishNa
"62"aravam adal vEzham....." (incidentally this
has been covered under the heading --Special pAsuram earlier)
Further, in the nd pAsuram
" mana maruva mAl vidai Ezh cheRRu" refers to the
event of conquering the seven bulls. Here, the event of consuming the poison from the
demoness --bhUdhanA- is referred to, whcih poigai AzhwAr also mentions in the
11th pAsuram--"-pEi mulai nanju vUNAga
vuNdAn"
The event of demolishing sakatAsuran with His
divine legs is mentioned in the final pAsuram ---Oradiyum
sAduthaitha-- which is also referred in this sixth pAsuram as
" kaLLach sakatam kalakkazhia kAl vOchi".
The kshErApthi nAdhan is talked by poizhgai AzhwAr
"veLLathil vuLLAnum" in the 99th pAsuram of mudhal
thiruvandhAdhi which is also mentioned here as "veLLath aravil
thuyil amarndha vithu"
As seen earlier, this devotee is likened
to a new devotee. Likewise, poizhgai AzhwAr states " onRum adhanai
vuNarEan nAn" mudhal thiruvandhAdhi 2 which corroborates this
idea.
Hene, it is concluded that this pAsuram
refers to poizgai AzhwAr.
The seventh pAsuram:
"pEip peN" refers to pEi AzhwAr. How?
mUnRAm thiruvandhAdhi commences with the divine
term "thiruk kaNdEan" which brings into limelight
Lord's vaibhavam.
Further, pEi AzhwAr falls into raptures and talks
like a woman in the pAsuram "nEnda thOl mAl nEL kadal
nErAduvAn"
"pUNda nAL ellAm pugum" -mUnRAm
thiruvandhAdhi 69 ;
Lord's krishNA's great deeds are
cherished in the pAsuram ' kOvalanAi AniraigaL mEithuk kuzhalUdhi"
42;
The Lord's deed in conquring the bulls are spelt
out in mUnRAm thiruvandhAdhi " pinnaikkA yERRuyirai
attAn"85;
Considering all these aspects it is
concluded that "pEi peNNEA" refers to pEi-AzhwAr.
