Let me add to Dr. SundarRajan's comments. There is a huge arch with several oil lamps at the entrance to the ChakrathAzhwar sannidhi. I used to light up 108 sesame oil bundles (Ellu Mudichu) on these lamps during my younger days. Now the devasthanam is allowing people to offer this right inside the temple messing up the floor with oil and the outside arch stays barren. The same story goes with the food stall in the famous Garuda Mantapam and the ThulaaBhaaram in the ThiruArangathuMutram. Coffee breaks are observed in Gayathri Mantapam where Theertha Kumbams( Perumal water pots) are kept. There are so many such activities going on in PeriyaKoil which were unthinkable a few decades ago.
