Dear Soundararajan Swami,
The sanskrit word is actually 'uparAga'(not 'uparAha') meaning
eclipse solar or lunar as the case may be. Rahu and Ketu are two orbiting
nodes in opposition. When Sun is in ketu and moon is in Rahu, or vice
versa then lunar eclipse is possible. If moon is in Rahu then it is
called rahugrasta somoparAga (punyakale). If moon was in ketu and Sun in
Rahu, and if lunar eclipse occurs, then we call it ketugrasta somoparaga
(punyakale). Tarpana has to be done in both cases.
Similarly, if both moon and Sun are in ketu, solar eclipse can occur. If
it occurs then we call it ketugrasta suryoparaga (punyakale). If both sun
and moon are in Rahu node and eclipse occurs, then we call it Rahugrasta
suryoparaga (punyakale). Tarpana is done in both cases.

grastAsta and grastodaya happens when sun or moon sets or rises in the
eclipsed state. In the former case we are purified only after seeing the
heavenly body in the pure state on the next day.
I hope that clarifies. the point.
