SrI: SrImathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya namah: Dearest all, After mudhal aazhwArs, next we have begun to enjoy Thirumazhisai AzhwAr?s verses on thiruvEnkatam. Today?s verse is 39th in Naanmukhan ThiruvanthAthi.. Why this word naanmukhan ThiruvanthAthi- you may wonder. AchAryAs enjoy this AzhwAr?s works, and address them as the sword that has been taken out of its cover (from the waist band) to destroy other non- vaidika and non-truthful, false notions and doctrines and to establish that Sriya: pathi Sriman Narayanan is Parathvam and AzhwAr has NOT still put the sword back Since the 1st pAsuram starts with Naanmuganai, this work is called ?Naanmugan Thiruvandhaadhi (NMT in short). The first verse is: naanmuganai NaaraayaNan padaitthaan* Naanmuganum/ thaan mugamaay sankaranaip padaitthaan * yaan mugamaay/ andhaadhi mElitaaRivitthEn aazhporuLaich*/ sindhaamaR koNmin neer thErndhu./ NarayaNan created BrahmA (chathur mukha- naanmugan- four faced one); BrahmA (thus became the instrument) and created the universe starting with Sankaran. And this I have been blessed to announce in this most important truth. Oh People! you all see, understand the truth in this and don?s let it get out of your mind. MahOpanishad declares this truth that Narayanan is the One who cause of creation for all dEvAs through BrahmA whom He first created. (Thus, AzhwAr implies, by getting to know the Creator, and the births of BrahmA and Sivan, you all can get rid of your future births.) He- sriman Narayanan is the Only One who has not parent.. or Father. Chathur mukha BrahmA?s father is Narayanan; Rudran?s father is Chathurmukha brahmA; Swethaswathara Upanishad states that the Supreme Being first created Brahma. [yo brahmaanm vidhadhaathi poorvam]. The Upanisahd clearly points out that Brahma was brought into existence by Narayanan and that from Narayanawas born Rudra etc.. [Narayanaat Brahmaa jaayathE; Naaraayanaath RudrO jaayathE] In the same manner, MahOpanishad relating to primary cause of the Universe says: [In the beginning] only Narayana existed, nether Brahma, nor Isaana [Rudra], nor the heaven; nor the earth; nor the stars; nor the water and the fire; nor the moon and the sun. [ekO ha vai nArAyaNa Aseeth; na brahma nEsAnO nApO nAgnisOmau meme dhaavaa prthivI na nakshathraani na sooryO na chandramaah:] Let us now come back to our enjoyment of ThiruvEnkatam.. azhaippan thiruvENG kadaththaanaik kaaNa, izhaippan thirukkoodal kooda, - mazhaippE raruvi maNivaranRi vandhizhiya, yaanai veruvi yaravodungum veRpu. 39 I am calling sincerely ThiruvEnkadatthaan, and am blessed with His darshan. On this huge Venkatagiri, when the rains waters fall down with vociferous roars carrying with them, the bright precious gems and stones with lustre, the elephants get scared of the brightness thinking that it is all fire sparks; the long deadly pythons run away with fear thinking that it is the lightning. Such wonderful ThirumalA, I would like to join with it. (Here AzhwAr says Thirukkoodal kooda azhaippan means: To find out if what we wish will materialise, there is a method. i.e. Keep drawing concentric circles, one inside the other, and check if it even in number or odd. If it is odd, it will not materialise. Thus, AzhwAr tries to see if he is going to join Thirumalai Srinivasan) and he gets even? The Azhwar refers to the celebration of the Thiruvonam festival at Thiruvenkadam (Tirumala) when every God including Brahma and Rudra propitiate Him. Though the 39th verse beginning with the word, Azhaippan, is said to be Azhwar's call to the Lord of Tirumala by a method known as Koodal Izhaithal (drawing circles), it is considered by the Acharyas and other scholars as a reference to the Lord of Thirukkoodal (Madurai).
