Dear srivaishNavap perunthagaiyeer,

We saw 'love is a game of waiting' - with intense feelings. Both the ladylove
as well krishna are waiting for the moment of union. Whether it happened or
not, we do not know.
But on this 'love', commentators have added beautiful explanations. This love -
the game of waiting, leads to 10 stages - they say. While describing raadhaa's
waiting at the bower in geetha gOvindham, the commentator adds about this love
-
manmatha avasthau dhaak manas sankalpa jaagarou kaachathaa aratheem |
hruth thyaago unmaadha moorcchaa anthaa ithi ananga dhasaa dhasaa ||

meaning: The 10 stages of love are
        1.      eyeing;
        2.      heart-losing;
        3.      endeavor;
        4.      sleeplessness;
        5.      shriveling;
        6.      disinterestedness in anything;
        7.      shamelessness;
        8.      maddening;
        9.      swooning;
        10.     trying to end oneself.

The above 10 stages is put in tamil in the aachaarya hrudhayam series by
vanamaamalai padmanabhan swamy as - in commentary to that 'oodhu
maththhenguzharkE uyyEn paasuram'
"THE 10 STAGES: It was seen that Love is a waiting game.
                        * Can it go on endlessly?
                        * what is the final scene?
These are the questions, which may arise -
                        * What is this waiting for?
                        * What are its natures and the evolution?
                        * what happens in the final stages?
They are explained herein. "ini pathil onRu dhasama dhasaiyilE pEr enRu naat
kadalaaga thambik kittaadhaagaamal, naaLai vadhuvai pOlE naaLidap peRRavar.

Then adds the 10 stages of Love:
        1.      1st - sight and the resultant love and desire;
        2.      2nd - thinking of that;
        3.      3rd - the same thinking;
        4.      4th - Sleeplessness;
        5.      5th - physical dilution;
        6.      6th - indifference towards other things;
        7.      7th - shy-less-ness;
        8.      8th - behaving like one afflicted by madness;
        9.      9th - fainting and
        10.     10th - death.
[may be the words are slightly different in describing the 10 stages or
conditions, but note the core content is same in both these lists of tens. Or
may be the language used and style of putting across is slightly different].

Please read VP's posts [available in raamanuja list archives] for a full
explanation for the naat kadalaaga thambikku etc.

My need was that 10 stages and so I have taken that. [Thanks to VP and he has
to excuse me for using his works without express permission]

The waiting ends in 'naaLai vadhuvai polE naaLidap peRRavar' - tomorrow is the
marriage day - for aaNdaaL - there ends her waiting. 'Thambikku' is for
bharatha, the waiting ends with the arrival of raamaa. To our girl - waiting
for Krishna - what happened? Answer is just below.

Now another question also arise - avan vanthaal peRugiRa pERu yaadhu? - what is
the gain when he actually arrives? - the answer 'avanaik kaaNavE' - the gain is
"to see him".

Many a times, in upanyaasams, Sri Krishna premi swamigaL says - "naama
sankeerthanam paNNinaal varum payan enna enRu ennai palar kEttaargaL - en
padhil - nama sankeerthanam paNNuvadhE" - many asked me what is the result or
gain of doing naama sankeerthanam? - my answer is 'doing that naama
sankeerthanam itself'.

Like that, the gain of waiting for the arrival of krishNa, is "seeing him".
Just think for a moment "Is it so easy to see him" - unless he comes on his own
- avan namakkaaga irangi thaanaga vanthaal ozhiya -coming down on his own just
for our sake - like that call of gajendhra after waiting for long years. Now
our girl got that chance.

Since he is nicknamed 'maayan' - meaning - maayangaL seibavan - one who creates
wonders - "aachchariyaththai viLaivikkak koodiyavan" - he suddenly appears make
us wonder - just recall about periyaazhvaar - krishNa suddenly appeared -
aazhvaar started singing pallaaNdu - this young girl does not know
        1.      what to say,
        2.      how to receive him,
        3. how to enjoy with him,
        4. what to ask from him, etc
- so she simply says
"svaagatham krishNaa saraNaagatham krishNaa iha" - swagatham krishNa

Thereafter why we should worry what happens to that girl - it is for krishNa to
take care of her, for he only said "maam Ekam saraNam vraja, thvaa
mOkshayishyaami - maa sucha". So we need not just even think of her, but start
enjoying that welcome to krishNa.

That line "svaagatham krishNaa saraNaagatham krishNaa iha" - swagatham krishNa"
is not mine, dear bhakthaas, but that of sri ooththukkadu venkata subbu iyer -
the OVS mahaan. Now have the full krithi -

krithi svaagatham krishNa in raagam mohanam. thaaLam : aadhi

mathuraapuri sadhanaa, mridhuvadhanaa, madhusoodhanaa, iha

anupallavi:

meaning: Krishna

        - one who has smelling kasthoori - deer musk in forehead as
thilakam
        - my husband [OVS also became a girl here to name him as my
husband - a true sri vaishNavaite]
        - the cloud coloured son of king nandhagOpa

charaNam:

kuku thaNa kitathaka dheem thakathari thimu thaNa kitathaka swaagatham

meaning: Krishna welcome to you, who is a
        - wizard in wrestling fought with mushtikan chaaNooran etal
        - killer of the elephant kuvalayaapeetam - kamsan's elephant
        - dancer on kaalinga the snake
        - saviour of gOkulam by lifting the hill gOvardhanam
        - having all good looks and symbols [subha lakshaNams]
        - saviour of dhEvaas and pious people
        - by the simple will who has life for kalpaas - means endlessly
living
        -       intelligent
        - a pleasure hunting ground for the saints and rishis
        -       beautiful and lovable
        - the god who kills dhaithyaas - rakshasaas
        - daringly loving in a sweet way - [just recall raasakreetai]
        - the god of worship of the gOpees.
        -
Point: That happiness of 'having seen him' just in front of her and having
welcomed him, she is unable to say any thing more, than a simple welcome.
Unable to say 'Hey Krishna I want this or that or even the much talked about
mOksham. So she starts simply praising him - saying his achievements like
kaalinga narthanam etc. While talking about his achiements, the happiness is so
great, that, she started dancing also - so started saying some jathis also -
the thaka dheem etc.

[some word experts said "pleasure is momentary and happiness is enduring and
lasting" so iam using 'happiness' here. I do not remember who is that expert].

Just enjoy that krishNaanubhavam - just enjoy the waiting for him, to see him,
when he turns up say welcome to him. Krishna Krishna -

Krishna Dhaasan in waiting
