Coker
Arboretum (1903)
The Arboretum was named for William C. Coker, a former head of
the University's botany department. Originally, the area was 5
acres of marshy pasture, but today it is a naturalistic garden
of over 400 varieties of plant life, trees and shrubbery. On a
warm, sunny Carolina day, students enjoy studying and sunbathing
in the grass and on the surrounding benches.
