522nd Field Artillery Battalion

Wikipedia Article

The Wikipedia entry about the 522nd includes Pierre Moulin's fabricated account from his Dachau, Holocaust and US Samurais that soldiers of the 522nd were the first to arrive at the gates of Dachau on April 29, 1945.

Also included is the inaccurate account that the 522nd liberated 3,000 prisoners at Kaufering IV. Prior to the arrival of the 12th Armored,101st Airborne  63rd Infantry Divisions, the officially recognized liberators, the SS transported most of the prisoners and murdered those that they could not transport. A few hundred who evaded the transport were hiding nearby. The 522nd arrived after the units of the liberating divisions. No documentation has been found that the 522nd had any contact with the living survivors.
