But where did Freedman get his info???
Here is something I sent Eric Weiss and his response. Maybe there is
something in Jesus's statement that has not been realized.

Probably, from what I understand. I.e., "from aleph to tau" in Hebrew means
the same as "from alpha to omega" in Greek - i.e., EVERYTHING.

I have a side question here. I know aleph is the first letter of the Hebew
alphabet, but what about tau. If it is the last is this another
connection to Jesus's comment about being the Alpha and the Omega?
Remember at the time the urim and thummin would have been made, the Jews
were usinng the old Phoenician alphabet. I don't know what the letter
order in it was.

Eric,
Freedman's description of the urim and thummim sounds Suspiciously like the
Magic Eight Ball. I Wonder if this is where the manufacturer got its idea?

If I recall correctly, David Noel Freedman, in his fascinating and
fun-to-read book THE NINE COMMANDMENTS, says that they were likely two
stones with aleph on one side and tau on the other. (The Hebrew words urim
and thummim begin, respectively, with the letters aleph and tau.) A toss or
throw of the stones would give four possible combinations:
aleph - aleph
aleph - tau
tau - aleph
tau - tau
In other words, agreement or disagreement, or "yes," "no," and "maybe."
