REGARDGING ΦΩΣ ΙΛΑΡΟΝ FWS hILARON
Trying one for FWS hILARON Φως Ιλαρον would be fun -- but the tune would
need to be a modern one, I think, to have a drawing appeal.
There is a modern CD called "Hymns Ancient and Modern
(A CD of Ancient Hymns reworked into modern English)

Some updated links for the Old Greek Hymns (they first two from George
did not work)

(There was a back door they kept going around back through -- keep a
close eye on the faces)

Text of FWS HILARON: (From Wikipedia. Line breaks are my guesses)

From
the Vespers (Evening Prayer) service in the Lutheran Book of Worship,
Lutheran Worship, and Lutheran Service Book
Joyous light of glory of the immortal Father,
Heavenly, holy, blessed Jesus Christ,
We have come to the setting of the Sun
And we look to the evening light.
We sing to God, the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit.
You are worthy of being praised with pure voices forever.
O Son of God, O Giver of Light,
The universe proclaims your glory.
Perhaps someone on the list could show some music links for
the Traditional Greek music. Greek chants do no use the same
standard 8 notes per octave with the same tonal breaks as
modern western music, does it?
