"Action between the Merrimac and the Monitor"
Line engraving by J. Rogers after a drawing by A.C. Warren, published
by Samuel Walker, Boston, 1862.
It depicts CSS Virginia ("Merrimac"), at left,
in battle with USS Monitor, in the center. At right is
USS Minnesota, shown much closer to the action than was
actually the case.
Ships shown in the distance are identified on the print as (from
left center to right center): CSS Jamestown, CSS Yorktown,
USS Congress and USS Cumberland. The latter two
had been sunk by the Virginia on the previous day.
