Cafeteria-style food service, while the ship was operating on an extended deployment in the Coral Sea area, circa early April 1942.
Serving container in the foreground appears to hold spaghetti with canned sausage mixed in. By the second week of April, the ship's fresh meat supplies had been exhausted.
Identified persons include: "Red" Hicks (extreme left), "Ace" Dison (2nd from left, with his name tattooed on right arm), Chief Commissary Stewards Callaway and Sims (center) and Seaman 1st Class D. Roma (5th from right).
