USS Yorktown (CV-5)

During the "Yorktown Jamboree", Fireman 3rd Class Sid Flum and Seaman 2nd Class Pete Montalvo dance the "Jumping Jive", accompanied by the ship's orchestra, 10 April 1942, while the ship was operating in the Coral Sea.
Show is taking place on the midships elevator, with the camera looking aft and to starboard. Note spectators crowded around the elevator perimeter, spare SBD aircraft triced up in the hangar overhead (at right) and mural painted on the starboard bulkhead.
This mural was still visible when the ship's wreck was examined, at a depth of 16,650 feet, on 20 May 1998.
