Normandy Invasion, 1944


A U.S. Soldier and two French refugees make each other understood, despite the difference in languages, in Ste. Mère Église after its capture by the U.S. Army, 6 June 1944.
This town was in the center of the 82nd Airborne Division's assault area, inland from "Utah" Beach.
The Soldier is holding a pencil and a M1 Rifle.
Taken by Combat Photo Unit Eight (CPU-8).
