Normandy Invasion, June 1944

Navy Beach Battalion members prepare a sandbagged emplacement on one of the Normandy invasion beaches, 11 June 1944.
This appears to be "Utah" Beach, with the higher ground of "Omaha" Beach in the center and left distance. Note landing barges in the background, DUKW amphibious truck at left, and barbed wire obstructions atop the concrete seawall running diagonally from lower left to right center.
Taken by Combat Photo Unit Eight (CPU-8).

Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives.
