Lieutenant General Yoshio Tachibana, Japanese Army, signs documents surrendering the Bonin Islands, 3 September 1945, on board USS Dunlap (DD-384) off Chichi Jima.
At left are Lieutenant David C. McMillion, USN, and Commodore John H. Magruder, Jr., USN, who accepted the surrender.
Japanese officers standing behind LtG. Tachibana are (left to right): Lieutenant Commander I. Shinoda, Major Y. Horie, Captain J. Sato and Captain S. Terasawa.
