Photographed on board USS Guadalcanal (CVE-60) in June 1944.
On 4 June 1944 Lieutenant Junior Grade David led the boarding party that took control of the German submarine U-505 after it was forced to surface by Guadalcanal's task force. This capture of an enemy warship on the high seas was the first by the U.S. Navy since 1815. Albert David was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his leadership and bravery during this action.
