Homecoming of the "Great White Fleet",
Hampton Roads, Virginia, 22 February 1909
Local excursion steamer General Lee (center) steaming
past a line of Atlantic Fleet ships, during ceremonies welcoming
the "Great White Fleet" home at the end of its World
cruise.
The ship at right is either USS Mississippi (Battleship
# 23) or USS Idaho (Battleship # 24), neither of which
participated in the cruise around the World. Note that she wears
the newly-introduced grey paint, and has been fitted with a "cage"
mainmast.
