USS Nipsic (1879-1913)
View of the new iron rudder, rudderpost, propeller and rebuilt
keel and deadwood, with renewed copper hull sheathing. Photographed
in drydock at Honolulu, Hawaii, circa late 1889, after repairs
were completed.
Nipsic had lost her sternpost and rudder in the 15-16
March 1889 hurricane at Apia, Samoa, which also bent her propeller
beyond repair and badly damaged her hull immediately below the
propeller.
