Crew paraded on the flight deck during the ship's commissioning ceremonies, 30 September 1937. She was then tied up at the Naval Operating Base, Norfolk, Virginia. The Marine detachment is in the lower left center.
Note aircraft tie-down strips laid at regular intervals among the flight deck planks.
