Seen from almost directly ahead on 13 April 1917, while being moved off Samoa Beach to Humboldt Bay, near Eureka, California, during salvage operations by the Mercer-Fraser Company.
Photographed by the Freeman Art Company, Eureka.
Note the wooden runners laid across the sand to provide a track for rolling the submarine.
H-3's rotating bow cap has been turned to expose two of her torpedo tube muzzles.
