(American Freighter, 1918)

Underway during her builder's trials, 25 July 1918.
Constructed by the Moore Shipbuilding Company of Oakland, California, this ship was taken over by the Navy on 26 July 1918 and commissioned as USS Aniwa (ID # 3146). She was returned to the U.S. Shipping Board on 21 April 1919, after service with the Naval Overseas Transportation Service.
Note her "dazzle" camouflage scheme.
