"Confederates Trapping a Boat's Crew of the Potomac Fleet"


Hand colored engraving, "from a sketch by our Special Artist", published in the "Illustrated London News Supplement", 21 September 1861.
It depicts the ambush of a boat from the U.S. Tug Resolute by Confederate infantry, off the Virginia bank of the Potomac River in about August 1861. The print may represent the 15 August 1861 engagement at Mathias Point, Virginia.
